BEHIND THE SHADOWS:
AN ENCOUNTER WITH SPIRITUAL WARFARE

What does spiritual warfare look like in real life? Sometimes it looks like a young mother sitting quietly in her living room, staring into the corner as if someone unseen is standing there… while her husband kneels in the next room, praying that the night will pass without tragedy.

David Ng never imagined that his family would become a frontline battlefield in the unseen conflict between good and evil. His story begins not with fear—but with joy.

In March 2017, David and his wife welcomed their newborn son, a miracle they had long prayed for. During her recovery, her mother came to help and offered a simple gift: a string of beads, presented as something blessed for protection. It seemed harmless. She placed it in a drawer and forgot about it.

But something else did not forget.

Over the next two years, David watched subtle changes creep into his wife’s life. The vibrant, playful woman who filled their home with laughter became withdrawn and anxious. Then came the depression. Then the voices. One day, in an elevator, she spoke to someone unseen. Their young daughter looked up and asked, “Mommy, who are you talking to? I don’t see anyone.”

Doctors diagnosed severe psychotic depression. Medication followed—strong, numbing, heavy. But instead of relief, the torment deepened. She fled from worship music as if it physically hurt her. She ran into dark rooms and shut the curtains tight. At times, she spoke of unseen beings urging her to harm herself.

The turning point came when a sister, calling from Australia, spoke plainly: “This doesn’t sound like depression. This sounds spiritual.” She reminded him of his wife’s childhood—growing up around ancestral practices, charms, and occult influences that were never renounced. What once lay dormant now seemed awakened.

David was torn. Was this purely mental illness? Or something darker?

The crisis escalated one evening when his wife suddenly cried out and bolted toward a high window, convinced voices were telling her to jump, but ran into what felt like a locked widow. However, when David pulled back the curtain, the window stood wide open. He is convinced angels intervened that night, standing between his wife and death.

As the months unfolded, spiritual counselors began asking deeper questions—about ancestral practices, charms, and spiritual doors that had never been closed. Scripture was read aloud in their home. When the name of Jesus was spoken, the manifestations intensified—then retreated.

And then came the moment David will never forget: a single sentence his wife struggled to say… words that seemed to trigger a battle in the room itself.

When she finally cried them out, everything changed.

But what were those words?

What role did that simple string of beads play?

And what happened the night she tried to destroy them?

David Ng’s story pulls back the curtain on a reality many are uncomfortable discussing—the reality that spiritual warfare is not confined to Bible times. Yet neither is Christ’s power.

This is one you need to hear.
